The relationship between Johnny Storm and his old girlfriend, Dorrie Evans, was always a little touch-and-go, given Dorrie's annoyance with how Johnny's life as the Human Torch infringed on their time together. Towards the end of the Thing/Torch feature in Strange Tales, it seemed like Dorrie had finally reached her limit:
Good lord--she's been keeping count.
Yet by the end of the tale, Dorrie came back and the two patched things up. Over time, though, we saw less of Dorrie. We knew they were still seeing each other by the time the Inhumans first appeared in Fantastic Four, but it was clear that she was being phased out to make room for Crystal:
It was probably just as well. Three's a crowd--and there was no room in that relationship for Dorrie, Johnny, and Johnny's massive ego.
When things went kaput with Crystal, Johnny went to his fallback plan, almost by reflex:
It would have been news to Dorrie if Johnny had indeed arranged for a date with her--because when he actually does look her up soon after, he receives quite the surprise:
If we looked closely, we could probably see Johnny's skid marks on that walkway.

I think we've all been there, and it's ROUGH.
You never forget it, and you every time you remember it, even twenty years later, you wince.
Ouch. mp
